Kids Carnival is a 2-hour event on May 30th, for kids aged 1 through 13

May 21st, 2010

Hi Nancy,

The purpose of my letter is to tell everyone about the Kids Carnival, and then to ask for volunteers to help me run this exciting event. Near the bottom of this message is a list of “fun jobs” that I need help with.

This Kids Carnival is a 2-hour event on May 30th, for kids aged 1 through 13, that will run two hours before the Fish Fry ceremonies. The idea is to have something for the kids to do at this event where, traditionally, only the adults have been participating (and winning nice prizes). This year, our kids will have the opportunity to be more than spectators. There are five (5) games, described below, in which over 100 small carnival-type prizes can be won. Just to name a few, there are inflatable guitars, rubber snakes, kazoos, tattoos, badminton raquets, sun glasses, sheriff badges, walkie-talkies, bowling games, eye patches, whistles, hair brushes, etc. Just like at all carnivals, these are little toys and the kids have fun with them. Every eligible (1 to 13) kid can buy tickets and play the games. Each of the five (5) games will have it’s own “ticket bucket” for the five (5) “Big” prizes to be awarded through ticket raffles. To assure fairness to all eligible kids, guidelines and ticket color coding will be in place. Tickets will cost 6 for $5. 5 tickets will be for playing the games and 1 (a different color) will be a chance for winning the bicycles.

The five games are:

1. Harpoon a Balloon The standard pierce-balloons-with-darts game
2. Fling a Ring The standard ring-toss games using tall noodle characters
3. Punch a Bunch Tissue-covered coffee cans; kids punch the tissue and grab what’s inside: candies, prizes, tickets to play more games
4. Hook a Crook AnOTher ring-toss game using hooks on a peg board
5. Lucky Ducky Our version of the duck pond, but without water; a quacking, battery-operated, table-top game

The five “Big” prizes are:

1. 2 Bicycles (1 boy’s 18-speed, and 1 girl’s 21-speed)
2. 1 Galileo tripod-mounted telescope (kids 14 to 18 can also enter the drawing for this)
3. 1 Giant over-stuffed gorilla
4. 1 Large stuffed turtle
5. 1 Large stuffed bull dog

I am taking telephonic applications for the below positions. Although the pay isn’t that good, you’ll enjoy a great title, and you’ll have my sincere thanks and personal gratitude:

1. Table and Tent Setup Specialists (around noon)
2. Ticket Sales Executives
3. Balloon Inflation Technicians
4. Adolescent Game Operators
5. Tattoo Application Artists

Please call me here in Rocky Point @ 602-324-7198 (Vonage), or 383-7560. Or contact Pat Goodin @ 382-5056. Thank you.

Mare Blu Ristorante, the new restaurant located at the Reef

May 21st, 2010

FYI: Here is a review from Gretchen of the new restaurant where the Reef used to be. This is great because it is so close to Cholla and open 7 days a week. We will be sure to dine there soon…
Nancy

Good morning, Nancy! I thought you might want to share this, since we Chollans are enthusiastic diners…

Last night Dawn & Winston Matthews and I had the PLEASURE of dining at Mare Blu Ristorante, the new restaurant located at the Reef. Ohmygoodness, it was delicious! The menu is Italian and continental, and the chef Luca Appendino, from Italy via the restaurant Tutti Santi in Scottsdale, really knows what he is doing. Each of us had a different entree, and all were wonderful, then we shared a tiramisu for dessert; it was divine!

Mare Blu is open for dinner 7 days weekly starting at 5. They have a wine list, plus a full bar, and prices are very reasonable. Owner Julio Valenzuela has the staff and the capacity to accomodate large groups…would be a great place for the Cholla crowd to dine as a group. They are new, and can use our support…I really want to see them succeed, plus it’s really nice to have a good option to Mexican food and flounder without driving to town.

Oh, I nearly forgot…Mare Blu also serves a breakfast buffet for $9 from 7 a.m. to noon on Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon. I have not tried that yet, but if it’s half as good as dinner, it will be the best breakfast buffet in town.

Thanks for spreading the word!

The moon rises at 5:50 but the New Years PARTY doesn’t start until 7:00

December 22nd, 2009

ATTENTION - ATTENTION! PLEASE READ COMPLETELY!

Thursday, December 31, will feature the rising of the blue moon at approximately 5:50 PM. The evening will also feature another faculous OBSC party which will get under way at 7:00 PM. Remember - the moon rises at 5:50 BUT THE PARTY DOESN’T START UNTIL 7:00. The theme of the OBSC’s most elegant event of the year is quite naturally “Blue Moon”. Maybe you’ll even want to wear blue! There will be an open bar and a feast of delicious Hors D’oeuvres available all evening, but no formal dinner. Of course it wouldn’t be New Years without those annoying party favors. There will also be Blue Jello Shots at 10:00 PM to celebrate with New York and 11:00 PM with New Orleans. Champagne corks will pop at midnight to welcome 2010 in Cholla Bay. Daniel will be there to play music for your listening or dancing pleasure. Plan to stay to see the New Year begin.

Tickets are $20 for members and $30 for guests. A limited number of 130 tickets will be presold. They are nonrefundable, but may be transferred member-to-member or guest-to-guest. Tickets are available directly from Pat Goodin at 382-5056 or Vonage at 575-635-4779. Her email is nolehacepat@yahoo.com. You can call Shirley McDonald at 382-5119 or Magicjack 480-463-7984. Her email is candsmcd@aol.com.
We request you buy your tickets if possible before December 26 in order to plan food quantities.

A new OBSC jacket will be raffled. Tickets will be 6 for $5.00. There might be some surprise happenings, too.

On New Year’s Day the party continues with breakfast and football. Pat Sledge will be preparing and serving breakfast around 10:00 AM. Plan to stick around for football and beer after breakfast. Pat S. promises a football pool for each of the college bowl games for our many OBSC gamers who will basically gamble on ANYTHING. Tickets for this bonus event (the breakfast) are $5.00 and If you plan to attend this event, please notify Pat G., Shirley or Pat S. for quantity control.

WE ALSO WANT TO WISH EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR, (even if you don’t come to our party).

Shirley McDonald & Pat Goodin
