Coffee Talk/News from Xochitl’s Cholla Cafe

January 5th, 2007

SOCIAL/CULTURAL EVENTS:  Dan Bercovich is giving a presentation on his
recent trip to Cuba on January 20, at 7p.m.  It is VERY interesting to get an inside view,
especially in that it is more in-depth than a tourist eye view.  Dan did extensive historical research before his trip.

Continue to check the website, Rocky Point Times and Cholla Chatter for
schedules of art classes in various mediums held at the restaurant on
Saturday evenings.  These classes will be taught by renown
artists/instructors such as Susi Lerma and Grace Schoonover.

My friend Carlitos, who was going to give sexy dance classes, got a real job.  However, we
will be offering a dance class by a professional instructor who said she can
fix what one wife described her husband’s dancing as, “a frog in the blender”.  If
she can fix “frog in the blender”, I imagine she can teach anyone to dance.
I am looking forward to some cultural enhancement, and community socializing
at Xochitl’s Cholla Café.

Beautiful homes open for the Cholla Home Tour

January 5th, 2007

casa.jpgHOME TOUR January 27th

The Cholla Bay Home Tour was held Saturday January 27th with great weather for everybody to visit homes in Cholla Bay. Shirley McDonald and Pat Goodin organized the event sponsored by the Old Boys Social Club to raise money for the Cholla Community Clubhouse. Shirley reported over 100 tickets were sold. Saturday turned out to be sunny and warn. Many great comments about the event and the homes were heard as people toured the 6 Cholla homes.
A big Thanks goes out to Shirley and Pat for organizing this fun event and also thanks to the home owners who opened their homes. We know they work hard to get their places ready for the home tour.
Homeowners participating were:
Kathy Barnard
Mike Clark
Gretchen Ellinger
Sue Kathe & Mike Breton
Lowell & Frankie McCulley
Victor & Leslie Rangel
If you didn’t attend, you missed seeing some beautiful Cholla homes. Watch for next year’s event and put it on your calendar.

Coffee Talk/News from Xochitl’s Cholla Cafe

January 5th, 2007

RESTAURANT NEWS: We are not trying to compete with the Reef’s lovely piano
bar, but we do now have a piano in the restaurant for anyone who cares to
play. It has been a very fun addition. There are some local excellent
musicians who have graced us with some fine music. We also now have
wireless internet available, so bring in your laptop or use the in-house
computer, and tend to business while socializing in the community atmosphere
of the café.

New on the menu: Our tortilla soup is back by popular demand, and is an
excellent meal on these cold days. Our shish-ka-bobs served on Thursday and
Friday nights are also very popular, as are our Monday night all you can eat
spaghetti nights. This all in addition to our regular fare of good food and
company.

CHOLLA CHARITIES: After receiving news of a high infant mortality rate
during the cold season, we have been receiving and distributing many
blankets and warm clothes for children. You are welcome to bring these by
the restaurant, but you will be cheating yourself out of a very rewarding
experience of meeting the local community if you were to take them to the
back streets of Penasco and look for families to give them to. Either way,
the important thing is to share the surplus as quickly as we can, so that
families don’t suffer from the cold.

We thank you all for generous monetary donations to Cholla Charities, also.
With the prosperity from the development in the city, families are not
generally hungry, as in the past. However, if there is any sort of
emergency, the bottom falls out on the family’s delicate financial
stability. This includes funerals, illness, and accidents. We raised over
$3000 through the holidays, and have spent about half of that already. Keep
your donations coming in when it is possible.
