Cholla News

March 30th, 2008

A little oops:

I told you the Vecinos’ general meeting is Saturday, April 26th, but forgot to add, the regular meeting of the board, with the newly elected officers, will be on April 27th at the clubhouse, probably at 9:00 a.m. (for more information, go to the website www.chollabayhoa.net ).

Also, I received word that Jerry Ketelhut is in Cholla, and doing well after his 2 back surgeries. We are very glad to hear this. It is nice to have some good news.

Cholla News from Nancy

March 29th, 2008

I am sorry to report that Pete Peterson had to return to the hospital for more treatment on Friday. Evidently the internal bleeding ( I think in the bladder) started again so he is back in the hospital and needs all of our prayers.

Also, Crazy Charley, who has been a fishing guide in Cholla for many years, passed away on Thursday, March 27th. Services are being or were held today, Saturday, in Cholla and Rocky Point. I’m sorry I didn’t get this out earlier.

Tom McCullough’s drive from Penasco to El Golfo on the “new” road

March 27th, 2008

March, 2008
Report on the new road from Penasco to Golfo.

I drove the new road from Penasco to Golfo the first part of March. I did this based on the advice of a friend, Cruz, who told me the road was complete except for a couple of kilometers.

Cap 7

We drove about 40 miles on a nice road. I was giving 4 other people a ride to San Luis Colorado.

Cap 8

Then the road stopped. Oh, did I say I was also pulling a trailer. I am slowly moving from Las Vegas and am dragging this trailer back and forth on a regular basis.
Cap 9

The construction workers who were at the end of the paved road assured us we could make it and that there was only a little way to go. Then we had 25 miles of sand. First hard packed sand and then 8 miles of loose silt. The jeep earned a new name “Burrito” because after we let the air out of the tires, it pulled the trailer and all 5 of us through the sand at a steady, bumpy, uncomplaining 30 miles an hour.

Cap 10

It was 150 miles to San Luis Colorado and we made it in just about the same time it would take to drive the existing route through Sonoyta.

The good news is we didn’t have to drive the road from Sonoyta to San Luis which everyone knows is the Calle de Muerte.

The bad news is my trailer is a little worse for the trip through the desert.

Unless you have 4 wheel drive and are up for an adventure, I would advise (unlike my friend, who’s new name is “Pinche Cruz”) waiting for the road to be complete.

Buena Suerte

Cholla News

March 26th, 2008

Hi Everyone,

I think spring is here! The weather in Sun City is great and I bet it is beautiful in Cholla, also. We will be going down April 4th, I can hardly wait!
First the sick bay, then I’ll remind you about what’s happening in The Bay.

Last week Pete Peterson had to suddenly leave Cholla for Tucson, where he was admitted to the hospital and underwent surgery for internal bleeding. They operated last week and again on Monday and were able to stop the bleeding. As of this morning he had all the tubes, etc., taken out and was expecting to go home today. Shirley said he is doing well, but of course they don’t know when they can return to Cholla, but probably as soon as Pete can travel. I tell you, they are both really amazing “troopers”. You can send cards of encouragement ‘well” wishes to 1746 E. Copper St., Tucson, Az. 85719.

I received word that Lew Fraizer, old time Chollian, passed away in March, I don’t know when. Lew was very active for many years in the Phoenix CBSC chapter and the council.

Coming events for April, just so you don’t forget:

April 5th is the CBSC Horseshoe Tournament at the clubhouse. Sign up will start at 10 a.m. and the tournament will start at noon. The entry fee is $10. There are some great prizes and it includes hot dogs and beer. For those who just want to come and watch and have hot dogs and beer the fee is $5. This should be a great time!!

April 11th, 12th and 13th is the second phase of the CBSC Fishing Derby. All you folks out there, pray for no wind. Be sure to stop by Ship’s Store during the derby and get your Derby T-shirt and other “cool stuff”. And, it’s a great place to watch the boats come in and find out what’s happening.

April 19th will be the OBSC Bash, with games, food, beer, music and lots of great prizes. Be sure to get your Bash tickets to win some of those great prizes. This is always a lot of fun and it is a benefit for some of the organizations for the needy in Rocky Point, so it is for a very worthy cause. You won’t want miss this.

April 26th, in the morning, is the Annual Vecinos’ meeting. This is your opportunity to vote for candidates for the Vecinos’ Board. There are 4 positions open, so your vote is important. I’ll have to let you know what time. Sorry about that.

Also, April 26th will be a CBSC meeting and pot luck. The meeting will be at 4:00 and social hour at 5:00 and dinner about 6:00. Ham will be provided for this dinner, so bring a pot with something in it to go with the ham. Also, drinks will be provided. I think there will be a charge to cover cost of utilities, cleaning, etc., but I will have to let you know what that will be.

This is all I have to say at this time, except I hope you are all having a great week and I hope to see you all in “The Bay”!

Nancy S.
