Cholla News

Hi All,

I just thought I might let you know about this so you can be prepared if it should happen to you, which it probably won’t, but just in case.
My neighbor was coming through the mall from town at about 11:00 p.m. on May 2nd. when he was stopped by the police just as he got through the mall. They had him get out of his truck and frisked him and looked all through his truck but found nothing. Then they told him to get in the police truck with the two men policemen and the woman police woman would drive his truck to the police station. He kept asking them why they had stopped him and they finally said, because he had hit the bumps and made the dirt fly. He refused to get in the truck and told them they could follow him to his house in Cholla, (he had no money with him) and he would pay the fine. They asked for his drivers license which he had also left at his house, and if they would follow him there he would show it to them. He had an ibuprophen pill in his pocket that they tried to say was drugs, but he showed them it was a pain pill. Finally, after all this hassle, they told him he could go this one time.
Evidently others have been stopped for no reason and usually at night.
If this should happen to you, do not leave your vehicle and go with them, rather tell them they can follow you to the police station and you will take care of matters there. Also, it would probably be a good idea to be polite and not get upset. ( I don’t know if crying would make a difference but probably not a good idea.)
Just thought that you who are coming to Cholla should know about this in case it should happen to you. Also, these cases should be reported to the police chief but of course it would need documentation and names and number of the police cars which most people don’t think about in this kind of situation, so maybe that can be done in the future.

Have a great week!

Nancy
